Classic & Older Vehicle Repair in Sheboygan

They Don’t Make Them Like They Used To. Good Thing We Still Work on Them.

Some cars are worth holding onto.

Maybe it’s the classic Corvette you’ve owned for decades, the old BMW you’ve spent years tracking down, or the vintage pickup that’s been in your family for generations. Whatever the reason, we understand why you want to keep it on the road.

At Van Wyk Auto, we genuinely enjoy working on older vehicles. Our technicians bring decades of combined experience to the shop, along with an appreciation for the engineering, character, and occasional quirks that make these cars unique. Whether your vehicle needs routine maintenance, mechanical repairs, or help tracking down a problem, we’d love to hear what you’re working on.

Old Cars. Experienced Hands.

Modern vehicles have computers monitoring practically everything. Older cars can require a different approach.

Diagnosing a problem might involve tracing wiring, checking mechanical components, or understanding systems that haven’t been used in new vehicles for decades. Our team includes technicians who have been working on cars since before today’s advanced electronics became standard equipment, and some that own classics themselves, enjoying working on pieces of history.

That experience can be especially valuable when you’re dealing with an older vehicle that doesn’t have an answer waiting in a scan tool. We don’t believe an older car should automatically be written off because a repair takes a little more investigation.

Sometimes it just needs someone who’s willing to take the time to understand it.

American Classics, European Favorites, and Everything in Between.

Classic American Cars

There’s something special about an old Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, or classic pickup.

Whether it’s a car you take to local shows, a weekend cruiser, or a vehicle that’s been in the family for generations, we’re happy to help with the mechanical maintenance and repairs that keep it enjoyable to drive.

Older European Vehicles

We appreciate European cars, especially the older ones.

From vintage BMWs and Mercedes-Benz models to classic Porsches and Volvos, these vehicles often have unique mechanical systems and maintenance requirements.

Our team recently completed extensive repairs on a BMW 320i from the 1970s. It’s exactly the kind of project that reminds us why we enjoy working on cars in the first place.

Keeping the Classics on the Road

Older vehicles need attention, and sometimes the little things can make the biggest difference.

Rubber components age. Seals begin to leak. Suspension parts wear out. Electrical connections corrode. And vehicles that spend more time sitting than driving can develop problems of their own.

We offer a variety of maintenance and mechanical repair services for older and classic vehicles, including:

  • Engine diagnostics and mechanical repairs

  • Cooling system service and repairs

  • Brake system repairs

  • Steering and suspension work

  • Electrical troubleshooting

  • Fuel system service and repairs

  • Fluid changes and routine maintenance

  • Heating and air conditioning repairs

  • Drivetrain and transmission service

  • General inspections and preventive maintenance

Every older vehicle is a little different. We’ll evaluate its condition, discuss what you’re looking to accomplish, and determine what work makes sense for the car.

Keeping an Older Car Running Takes More Than Just Parts.

One of the challenges of owning an older vehicle is that replacement parts aren’t always sitting on a shelf.

Sometimes finding the right component takes some research. Other times, a repair requires a little more patience than it would on a newer vehicle.

We understand that.

We also understand that there’s a difference between making necessary repairs and trying to turn an older car into something it’s not.

Our focus is on helping you maintain the vehicle you have, address mechanical concerns, and keep it safe and enjoyable to drive.

And if a repair isn’t practical because of parts availability, cost, or the vehicle’s condition, we’ll have that conversation with you.

It’s Not Just About the Car.

For some people, an older car is a hobby. For others, it’s a connection to a family member, a favorite memory, or simply something they’ve worked hard to keep.

We know those vehicles can mean a lot to their owners. That’s why we take the time to explain what we find, talk through repair options, and help you decide how best to move forward.

You won’t get a sales pitch about why you should replace your car with something newer. You’ll get an honest assessment and a team that appreciates why you want to keep driving it.

Have a Classic That Needs Some Attention?

Whether it’s a car you’ve spent years caring for or a recent addition to your garage, we’d be happy to talk about it. Tell us what you’ve got, what’s going on with it, and what you’re hoping to accomplish. We’ll help you figure out the next step.

A Note About Classic Vehicle Repairs

Older vehicles often require a different approach to diagnosis and repair than modern cars. Without today’s onboard diagnostic systems and trouble codes, finding a problem can involve additional hands-on testing, research, and troubleshooting. Parts availability and the condition of older components can also affect the time required.
For these reasons, classic vehicle repairs are generally performed on a time-and-materials basis rather than using standard flat-rate repair times. We’ll discuss the work with you, communicate what we find, and keep you informed as the repair progresses.
